Club Crit #2 is only a week away

After the success of our first race, we're heading back to Muzz this Sunday at (21 September) for another sufferfest. Racing kicks off at 9am, and like last time it's going to be a fantastic atmosphere with plenty of snags and coffee for spectators. This time out we're putting on a women’s race, an open A/B, and an open C/D, and there’ll be prizes for primes, placings, and podiums. All the details are on TeamApp here.

BNECC Club Crit 2 — Points mean Prizes

To whet your appetite, here's a heavily bowdlerized race report from the previous BNECC club crit that Richie Cleaver has generously allowed me to reproduce here. Enjoy.

Richie's Race Report

A solid 25 or so in the start pack—names like Matty Pep, Daniel Seymour, Al Bell, Bish, Ben Armstrong, Lachlan Ninness, Papa G, Mark Hinds, Mitch, Heath glover, Vinnie. I was hoping for some solid turns but this was next level...

Talk about "on from the start", Bish and Mitch launch a 46km/h average first lap on the Clockwise U. The lads continue into lap 2 and 3 and the bunch starts to splinter, so I’ve had to request the bunch calm things down. After 10 mins I’m looking at the Garmin thinking 'you’ve got another 35 minutes of this'. We had a solid dozen in the bunch but only say 6 workers.

[Articulate passage calmly explaining that not everyone was contributing to the chase]

The back markers get us at say 20-odd minutes but it’s noticeable there are only 4, and Hammer and Norm are looking by far the strongest. Still we pressed on and several in the bunch are calling for rolls and several refuse to pull through . . . [by golly] . . . some just can’t . . . this getting tough, real tough. The main bunch now feels like it’s reducing in numbers, calling 8 tops now and some guys are having a swing at 2 primes, I’m more concerned with staying on. Average heart rate of 175 means there isn’t much more bloke like me can do to stay away from Norm and Hammer but we’re going deep and I’m calling on the bunch for more knowing it’s the only chance we have.

Praying for Wil to pull out his "2 to go" sign on 40 mins and he keeps it under the shed, I’m yelling at the lads for 3 more laps but I’m equally worried about going out the back as Bish launches a stinger attack and Danny goes too. We pulled it together yet again and 2 to go I could feel the back markers coming for us as the rolling had gone out the window. 🔔 and Bish loads up again but we are caught by Hammer and Norm at the bottom of the U. 500 to go and people set sail for home, I’m hanging tough praying they fade but Hammer and Norm stay on it. Al bell launches too in a battle for the ages with me and serval others scattered all over the place in the sprint just behind them. Norm 1 Al 2 and Hammer 3. I’d near found religion here so details are sketchy and could only muster 800 watts in the sprint to come home in 6th or so again. BNECC the real winner and massive thanks to the committee for organising. ❤️

AGM wrap-up

Tom McCosker

Hi all

Our 2025 AGM was held Last Wednesday and the Presentation is now available at this link.

2025 AGM

The night commenced with a high level overview from the President reinforcing what a great position the club is in both on and off the bike thanks to the hard work of many of the club’s members.

Club Captain Lachie gave a more detailed breakdown of what we are up to on the bike then Phil took us through what we are up to within the racing scene. Both are good news stories.

Noosa Enduro

By Daniel Prowse

The Noosa Enduro MTB 30, 60 and 100 km events were held on 6 July. Heavy rain in the week leading up to the race left the trails wet and muddy, adding to the challenge when the starter’s gun went off.

Noosa Enduro

It was fantastic to see several BNECC jerseys out on course, embracing the conditions and flying the club colours. Riders included Rod Brooks, Nedeltcho Stoyanov, Michael Jeffery, Alastair Bell, Geoffrey Watson (whose fearless downhill run unfortunately was rewarded with two broken bones in his hand), Paul Corrigan, Daniel Prowse and Colin Harkness.

Ride leader training

Captain Lachie

We're running a ride leader training session on Sunday 2 November, and we'd love for as many of you to come along as possible!

BNECC ride leader training

It's always a great session and valuable to share some tips and tricks with one another. If you've got anyone else that you've noticed might be a good fit, or who is keen to give ride leading a crack, make sure to bring them along for the session!

The session is on 2 November from 3-4:30pm, finishing up at The Regatta.

All the details are on the app here.

Morty’s misadventures

The BNECC news desk has received no small volume of enquiries over the year about the picaresque adventures of our club’s most loveable rogue—the one and only Cam Mort.

Naughty Morty

Rumour has it that Cam was recently spotted standing atop the podium at Muzz, but for some reason this was the only media I could find.

Needless to say, it has been a long road to recovery for young Mort. His Redcliffe own goal left him with a broken arm, a busted bike, and a lingering appetite for the dissociative effects of a certain class of legally obtainable analgesics.

Nevertheless, I'm proud to report that our Morty attacked his rehabilitation with gusto. After an initial period of convalescence, Naughty Morty was prescribed a rigorous schedule of forearm and shoulder exercises designed to rebuild his renowned lustiness.

To say he made a rapid recovery would be a severe understatement. Morty's medical team were shocked at the vigour and enthusiasm with which he rebuilt his piston-like appendage—one learned professor (with an old-fashioned vocabulary) was even overheard remarking that he’d never had patient beat his injury with such spunk.

Morty has since made a full recovery, so if you see him out on the road be sure to say "G'day".

Until next time...
